• Si family established state of Shen (申) during the Xia Dynasty. In the early Zhou Dynasty , State of Jiang conquered Shen , and the people of Shen migrated to state of Chu , and adopting Shen as their surname. 
• Another state of Shen (申) was destroyed by King Zhao of Zhou , and its rulers adopted Shen as their surname
