History

The ancestor of the Tang surname is Shang Tang , who is ruled of the Shang , one of the vassal state of the Xia dynasty . The last emperor of the Xia , Jie mistreated his people , and Cheng Tang used this as pretext to follow the Mandate of Heaven and overthrow Xia . The Shang annexed Wen , several years war against Kunwu , and continued to expand and conquered Wei and Gu . The Shang finally fought and defeated Xia army.  Shang Tang succeeded Jie as paramount leader and declared the Shang dynasty . The Shang ruled from 1556 to 1046 BC until overthrown by the Zhou in 1134BC.  Somes descendant of Cheng Tang adopted Tang as their surname.
