Big Fish & Begonia (2016 film)

Big Fish & Begonia (大鱼海棠) is a 2016 Chinese animation film directed by Liang Xuan (梁旋) , Zhang Chun (张春).

The stunningly beautiful clip they made for the film, which rivals some of best works from Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki, amazed millions of internet users and their Weibo post was viewed 30 million times. Many animation fans called it "the dawn of the Chinese animation industry" and voted it as the "most anticipated animated film."

The quality of the 30-minute clip, the great amount of the interest and later the great success of another top-grossing Chinese animated feature, "Monkey King: Hero is Back," were the contributors that prompted Enlight Media to invest in the project.

"The 12 years is nothing for us," Liang said at the press conference, revealing that the film's total budget is around 30 million yuan. "We just love to do it. After all we decided to do it at the beginning, so we must do it well.”

"We just felt so guilty that we kept so many people waiting for so long, and I have to apologize to them," Liang added.

Wang Changtian, president of Enlight Media, said the film is very touching and is a new milestone for the Chinese animation industry. "No any normal people will do things like what they do. I have to thank the two special people who've made this film for their endurance and persistence. A good animated film needs time.
